Heron Island, on the Great barrier Reef off Gladstone, is a richly vegetated coral cay with an established resort, research station and Marine Parks ranger base. There are dozens of dive locations within 15 minutes of the harbour. Shore and off-shore snorkelling can be undertaken.

There is always something happening at the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre, situated in the heart of Gladstone! The newly redeveloped facility is one of regional Queensland's premier entertainment venues, attracting new entertainment, conferences and events never before seen in the region.

The recent expansion has seen the addition of a new multi-use convention and event floor space that will increase the venue's capacity to 1,500 standing and allow it to host larger and higher-profile events and concerts.

New flat floor spaces complement the centre's existing auditorium, which seats 674 people, allowing the entertainment centre to host multiple events at any one time. 

Additional conference rooms have been added which can be configured to provide multiple spaces to host workshops, seminars and meetings. Each space is completed with the most up to date electronic, video and data displays, coupled with fibre optic and wireless internet connectivity.

Providing further event space the silk lined air-conditioned Marquee returns to its hardstand where it will be ready to host dinners, trade shows and functions.

The new Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre delivers on its designers attention to detail to provide the city with a venue that will perform well into the future.

Gladstone Maritime Museum's displays focus on but are not limited to the maritime history of the Curtis Coast and the Capricorn-Bunker Coral Islands. Displays cover discovery and exploration of the focus area, settlement, early and current industry, Naval involvement and recreational use of the region.

Notable displays include the "Wreck Wall" showing shipwreck location up until recent times, and the "Jenny Lind" figurehead with the story of the self-rescue saga following the shipwreck on Kenn Reef. 

A number of very detailed models illustrate early sailing vessels, naval vessels, and even the paddlesteamer "PS Premier" which provided the passenger link from the end of the Railway at Gladstone through the narrows to Rockhampton over a century ago.

The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum was established in 1985 and is a community cultural initiative funded by the Gladstone Regional Council. It is dedicated to promoting art and heritage for and by the communities of the Gladstone Region and Central Queensland, acting as a focal point for the preservation and display of the region's history and cultural heritage.

Housed in the heritage listed old Gladstone Town Hall, the current Gallery/Museum buildings are linked by a glass bridge walkway, purpose-built to accommodate the nineteenth century marble statue of the Region's namesake, William Ewart Gladstone.

The Calliope River Historical Village is a true heritage experience which has captured and preserved some of the original buildings from around the Gladstone Region.

Come and spend some time looking at unique and interesting displays, including the Calliope River Railway facility which includes a Queensland Rail coach, two camp wagons and the Yarwun station. Take a trip down memory lane in the Raglan Dance Hall, or visit the country Markets which are held on site, with stall holders from as far away as the Gold Coast selling their wares. 

The museum and tours operate daily at a small cost.

With an emphasis on marine activity and boasting one of the highest boat ownerships per capita in Australia, it should come as no surprise that the Gladstone Marina is a modern complex for yachting, boating and fishing activities.

The Gladstone Marina Parklands, immaculately maintained by the Gladstone Ports Corporation, has barbecue facilities and playgrounds, public toilets, wheelchair access, a fully-equipped outdoor stage and extensive grassed areas for picnics, playing and even a game of cricket!

The Marina area is also home to the Gladstone campus of the Central Queensland University and the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre.

Throughout the year, the Marina Parklands come alive with activities and celebrations, including the annual Harbour Festival and Multicultural Festival.

The Gladstone Marina is the departure point for charter boats, the Heron Island Ferry and also provides mooring for privately owned yachts. The Gladstone Harbour is the final destination for one of Australia's premier blue water events, the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.

The Gladstone Aquatic Centre is a public swimming facility located in the heart of the Gladstone City. Relax and enjoy the tropical surrounds and expansive grassed picnic areas for play and sunsmart shaded areas to escape the sun. There is an onsite kiosk for snacks, drinks and the obligatory ice-pole on a hot summer's day.

The Aquatic Centre has a 50 metre outdoor pool and 25 metre indoor heated pool plus the newly opened 'Splash Zone' water park which will keep the kids entertained for hours!

Gladstone Aquatic Centre also offers learn to swim programs and is home to the Gladstone Gropers Swimming Club.

Award winning Spinnaker Park was officially opened in 2001 by the Gladstone Ports Corporation, the park has become the premier recreation area of Gladstone City. 

Two and a half kilometres of educational walking tracks along the ocean wall, through native wetlands and ponds makes the park excellent for walking, riding or rollerblading. The beached cove is wonderful for a dip on a warm day while the barbecue and picnic areas make it a great place to entertain. 

The grassy areas of Spinnaker Park are fantastic for barbecues, picnics, birthday parties, events and more. Sheltered seating areas and public amenities are provided for visitor's convenience.

The Tondoon Botanic Gardens are home to an impressive species of plants from the Port Curtis Region and Tropical North Queensland. The gardens are set upon an 83 hectare site with a wide variety of flora and fauna. 

Officially opened in 1988, the gardens provide local residents and visitors with a place of inspiration, recreation and relaxation and is a popular place for picnics, cultural and ceremonial events.

Take a stroll around the Japanese Tea Gardens, and the numerous walking tracks throughout the gardens and discover superbly cultivated gardens nestled into Mount Biondello.

Lake Tondoon situated in the centre of the gardens once provided the source of Gladstone's water supply until 1945. Today the lake provides a habitat for a variety of freshwater birds.  

Free guided tours of the gardens are available each week. Picnic areas with electric barbecues, tables and chairs, toilets and kids playground are all available, free of charge.

Each year Tondoon Gardens play host to 'Ecofest'. Established in 1998, Ecofest is one of the Nation's biggest environmental awareness events held in June.

For a trip you will never forget, jump aboard the pink LARC - an amphibious craft that will take you for a ride across deserted sandy beaches and pristine estuaries as you make your way to the isolated Bustard Head Lighthouse located within Eurimbula National Park. This is Queensland's only operating Lighthouse open to the public! 

You'll hear the tales of tragedy and triumph as early white settlers and lighthouse keepers struggled to tame this remote wilderness. You will have a guided tour in the light keeper's cottage, now a museum of artefacts and light station memorabilia. You will see some of the prolific wildlife that inhabits the area and you will gasp in awe at the spectacular panoramic view from the balcony of the historic Bustard Head Lighthouse. 

And on the way home, you can experience the thrill of sand boarding down the towering dunes of Middle Island. The LARC's (Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo Vessels) are named in honour of Sir Joseph Banks and Dr Daniel Carl Solander, the two eminent botanists who accompanied Lieutenant James Cook aboard the Endeavour on their voyage of discovery. Full day tour includes morning tea, lunch and an Aussie Billy tea.
